Julius Nyerere Airport with Bus Routes and Times

Julius Nyerere International Airport has a broad selection of public transportation options available such as commuter buses. Nonetheless, entry of buses into the Airport Parking Area is prohibited. Passengers that choose to use public transportation upon arrival must disembark the Airport and proceed outside of its premises in order to catch a bus. The bus stop is located in a 500-1000m radius from Terminals 1, 2 and 3. All public commuters buses can drop passengers off at the City's major bus stand in Kariakoo or the Makumbusho bus terminal that connects buses from different routes in Dar es Salaam. Thanks to the regulation of fares by the Surface and Marine Transport Regulatory Authority (SUMATRA), bus fares are kept reasonable and affordable.

Several public commuter buses operate at JNIA, providing transportation to different parts of the city. The most popular routes include:

  • JNIA to Dar es Salaam city center
  • JNIA to Ubungo Bus Terminal
  • JNIA to Mwenge Bus Terminal
  • JNIA to Tazara Railway Station

The buses run from early morning until late at night, and the frequency of service varies depending on the route. For example, buses to the city center run every 15 minutes during peak hours, while those to Tazara Railway Station may only run once an hour.

The public commuter bus fare from Julius Nyerere Airport to the city center in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, is approximately 400 Tanzanian shillings (equivalent to about 17 cents in US dollars). However, this fare may vary slightly depending on the bus company and the time of day. It is worth noting that there are also private taxi services available at the airport, which may be more expensive but offer a more comfortable and convenient option for travelers.
